CABF Online (Internet) Bipolar Disorder Support Groups
Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation or CABF is an online organization that supports families with children diagnosed with or at risk for bipolar disorder. Access is limited to members who have paid a fee and offers an online community of experienced parents, physicians and professionals. Members can access content and information on diagnosis, treatments, articles and the online community.
People with bipolar disorder have long faced a public that doesn’t understand their diagnosis. Children with this mental illness often face numerous misdiagnoses by counselors and doctors. CABF offers online support groups to families who are raising a child with bipolar disorder which can help parents connect with others who are currently facing the same issues. It is often reassuring to families to know that they are not alone and what their child is experiencing is not simply a behavioral problem or a phase.
Support groups meet in person so that people can offer support to each other in an open and safe environment. Members at CABF online can share personal issues and receive suggestions from the rest of the group.
There are a few web-based support groups for parents of children with bipolar disorder. Yahoo offers groups is one option and MDjunction also offers free bipolar support groups for parents.
It can be difficult to find a support group that is meant for parents of children with bipolar disorder. With CABF, users are guaranteed that they can communicate with other parents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Members have to pay a fee to join the organization and this indicates that those parents who choose to join are serious about their child’s care and are probably willing to communicate openly with others to gain ideas and understanding.
